Practical Ways to Embrace Stillness (Be Present)

In the meantime, between time

Intro

As women, we often wear being "busy" like a badge of honor. We're constantly planning the next goal, chasing the next opportunity, or checking the next item off our to-do list.

In a world that celebrates productivity, stillness can feel uncomfortable, even unproductive. But what if stillness isn't a sign that you're falling behind? What if it's an invitation to reflect?

Have you ever been so focused on what's next that you forgot to look around and realize you're already living in prayers you once asked God to answer? Sometimes the greatest blessing isn't reaching the next destination, it's recognizing how far you've already come.

Common Challenges

Many of us struggle to embrace stillness because we're conditioned to believe that slowing down means we're being lazy. Instead, constantly staying busy can leave us experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Stress

  • Mental and physical exhaustion

  • Difficulty being fully present

  • A constant feeling that we're never doing enough

The truth is, rest is not the opposite of productivity. Rest is what allows us to continue growing with clarity and purpose.

Practical Ways to Embrace Stillness (Be Present)

It's easy to mistake scrolling through social media for rest, but depending on what we're consuming, it may actually leave us feeling more overwhelmed than refreshed. Being present means intentionally choosing where your attention goes.

  • Be Intentional With Social Media Instead of endless doom scrolling, try using social media as a tool for growth.

  • Follow accounts that educate and inspire you.

  • Adjust your algorithm by engaging with positive content.

  • Set daily screen-time limits.

  • Surround yourself with people who encourage your growth and align with your values.

Small changes in what you consume can have a significant impact on how you think and feel.

Protect Your Mind Be mindful of what your eyes see and what your ears hear. Our minds absorb more than we realize.

Constant exposure to negativity can shape our thoughts, emotions, and outlook on life.

On the other hand, consistently feeding your mind with encouraging, uplifting, and truthful messages helps cultivate a healthier mindset , one that not only benefits you but also influences the people around you.

Don't Let Comparison Steal Your Joy

Comparison distracts us from appreciating our own journey. When we spend our time measuring our lives against someone else's highlight reel, we miss the beauty of what God is doing in our own lives.

Your journey was never meant to look like anyone else's.

My Personal Reflection

I am currently in a season of transition, a place filled with uncertainty and the unknown. If I'm honest, it's frightening at times. But as a woman of faith, my reverence for the Lord is greater than my fear of the future.

This season of stillness has allowed me to pause, reflect, and recognize that I am living in answered prayers. Instead of rushing toward what's next, I've been learning to soak in the present. I've cherished the opportunity to spend quality time with my family and friends without the constant pressure of training and competing.

Those moments have reminded me that life isn't only about achieving the next milestone; it's also about appreciating the blessings that already surround us.

I've learned that it's possible to be responsible while still living fully in the present. And perhaps most importantly, I've learned that it's okay to rest.

Rest isn't quitting. Rest isn't laziness. Rest is preparation. Rest is stewardship. Rest is an act of recharging so you can continue walking in purpose.

Final Thoughts

If you're in a season of stillness, don't rush through it. Allow yourself to reflect. Celebrate how far you've come. Thank God for the prayers He's already answered, and trust Him with the ones you're still waiting on. Sometimes the growth we need most doesn't happen while we're running. It happens while we're still.
